Our therapeutic programs have been created to offer a consistent environment of acceptance and success. We work to design engaging and stimulating activities that build on each rider's skills

Making Strides

Making Strides Therapeutic Riding program was formerly TRADE (Therapeutic Riding at Drakestown Equestrian) in Long Valley, NJ from 2013 to 2017.  As of April of 2017, we have moved the business to our new location at Furlyn Farms and Stables, LLC in Greendell, NJ and have changed the name to Making Strides.  The facility utilizes an indoor arena as well as outdoor trails weather permitting.

Some benefits we have seen for our students:
  • Improved self-esteem and self confidence
  • Enhanced body image and awareness
  • Improved focus and attention span
  • Increased use of and ease with social skills
  • Improved communication skills
  • Enhanced strengthening and suppling of muscles
  • Improvement in balance, coordination, flexibility and fine and gross motor skills
For individuals with physical challenges, being on a horse improves muscle and core strength, posture, fexibility, balance and coordination.
For those with intellectual or developmental challenges, riding helps improve attention span, concentration, memory, speech and communication skills.
Horses can help behavioral and emotional struggles as well.  Interacting with these sensitive animals teaches teamwork, communication, responsibility, impulse control and a sense of personal achievement.
